Knowledge-based steps for hybrid corn seed production

Razavi Seed and Plant Institute, which has been working in the knowledge-based field of hybrid seed production for several years, has now entered the field of corn hybrid seed production and in this regard, it has cultivated its parent lines that transmit hybrid characteristics to the next generation.

According to the Communications and Media Department, today the best seeds in any crop are hybrid seeds; Seeds that have been welcomed by farmers and research centers due to their high economic value, higher production efficiency and higher quality than normal seeds. In order to produce hybrid seeds, we need to have parent lines, the same lines that, by using their crossing in a precise and regular management program in the farm and applying the necessary methods, the best maternal and paternal basic characteristics can be given to the progeny or children of the generation. Then he transferred the same hybrid seeds. Dr. Reza Tawakal Afshari, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Razavi Seed and Seedling Institute, referring to the successful cultivation of corn lines by this group, stated: With the grace of God and the efforts of colleagues, good activities have been carried out in the field of hybrid seed production so that we can take a step in In order to meet the dire need of the country in the field of shortage of these types of seeds. He continued: In this knowledge-based action, the seed department of Razavi Seed and Seedling Institute will produce the desired hybrid seeds from three pairs of cultivated corn parental lines.

Allocation of 3 hectares to the cultivation of hybrid corn Hybrid seed actually refers to F1 seed, which is produced by direct crossing of two genetically different parents. In these seeds, the superior qualitative and quantitative traits of both parents are combined, and finally the seed that is obtained is superior and has the desired set of traits, which is called a hybrid seed. Referring to the allocation of 3 hectares for the cultivation of hybrid corn in the current crop year, Tawakkul Afshari noted: the cultivation of parental lines of this plant has been done in the institute's Faruj Farms complex, and currently these lines are in a good growth condition. He continued: The cultivation of the parent lines was done in June this year and will be harvested in early October. The seeds that will be obtained from this harvest will be corn hybrid seeds.
