Evaluation of promising, compatible and alternative crops
Due to climate changes and limited resources, the project of evaluating promising agricultural cultivars was implemented in the Research and Development Center of Razavi Seed and Plant Institute.
In order to maintain independence, sustainable development and food security, new plants will be added to the country's farming or horticultural patterns over certain periods of time.
Such cultivars are generally at a higher level in terms of adaptability to climatic conditions, functional efficiency and performance than common species in the region. At the same time, in order to introduce these cultivars at the commercial level, their compatibility in the cultivated area should be evaluated in order to achieve a high level of confidence in the supply of cultivars.
Also, considering the mission of knowledge-based seedling and seedling institute in introducing promising and climate-friendly cultivars, this complex focuses on identifying suitable cultivars for cultivation and introducing them to farmers by allocating research budgets. In addition to hybrid seed production and commercialization of seed coating technology, identification of promising cultivars and genotypes can be a major step in increasing agricultural productivity of the country.
According to the guidelines, the first phase of the project is planned as follows:
- Preparation of research land
- Determination of consumption inputs
- Planting operation
- Operations (weeding, fertilizing, etc.) along with adaptation measurements during the growing season
- Withdrawal operation
- Purification, processing and purification
- Qualitative tests
The most important objectives of the experiment in the first phase are as follows:
- Determining the adaptation parameters in new cultivars based on the climatic conditions of the cultivated area.
- Purification of cultivars by removing undesirable plants during the production process.
- Evaluation of quality indicators of cultivars based on food criteria.
- Recording performance indicators and performance components and comparing it with the global production average.
Based on the results of the first phase of the experiment, the objectives of the second phase are as follows:
- Joint planning in commercial volume based on the selection of top numbers.
- Supplying superior products for introduction to the consumption basket of the society
Selection of promising plants has been carried out in three main groups of cereals, oilseeds and forage plants in order to introduce new products in these strategic groups. In fact, the introduction of promising cereal and oilseed plants with the aim of supplying quality and new crops to the community food basket. The criteria for introducing crops include adaptation of plants to climatic conditions (combined with stresses such as cold and excessive temperature), high grain yield and good nutritional value.
